Deuteronomy 20:1, 3-4
KJV—When thou goest out to battle against
thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots,
and a people more than thou, be not afraid of
them: for the Lord thy God is with thee, which
brought thee up out of the land of Egypt….
Let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not
tremble, neither be ye terrified because of
them; for the Lord your God is he that goeth
with you, to fight for you against your enemies,
to save you.

AMP—When you go forth to battle against
your enemies and see horses and chariots
and an army greater than your own, do not
be afraid of them, for the Lord your God, Who
brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with
you…. Let not your [minds and] hearts faint;
fear not, and do not tremble or be terrified
[and in dread] because of them. For the Lord
your God is He Who goes with you to fight for
you against your enemies to save you.

Moffatt—When you set out to make war upon
your enemies, and see war-horses and chariots
and an army larger than yourselves, you must
not be afraid of them, for the Eternal your God
who brought you out of the land of Egypt is on
your side…. Never lose heart, fear not, tremble
not, be not afraid of them, for the Eternal your
God goes with you, to fight for you against your
enemies and to give you the victory.

NIV—When you go to war against your enemies
and see horses and chariots and an army
greater than yours, do not be afraid of them,
because the Lord your God, who brought you
up out of Egypt, will be with you…. Do not be
fainthearted or afraid; do not be terrified or give
way to panic before them. For the Lord your
God is the one who goes with you to fight for
you against your enemies to give you victory.

Psalm 91:5-6
KJV—Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by
night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor
for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor
for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

AMP—You shall not be afraid of the terror
of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots
and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day,
nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor of the destruction and sudden death that
surprise and lay waste at noonday.

Moffatt—You need not fear the terrors of
the night, nor arrows flying in the day; you
need not fear plague stalking in the dark, nor
sudden death at noon.

NIV—You will not fear the terror of night, nor
the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence
that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that
destroys at midday.

Mark 5:36

Weymouth—Do not be afraid: only have faith.

NIV—Don’t be afraid; just believe.

John 14:23, 27
KJV—Jesus answered.… Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give unto you: not as the world
giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be
troubled, neither let it be afraid.

AMP—Jesus answered.… Peace I leave with
you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath
to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let
them be afraid [Stop allowing yourselves to
be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit
yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and
cowardly and unsettled.]

Weymouth—Jesus [replied]…. Peace I leave
with you: my own peace I give to you. Not as
the world gives do I give to you. Let not your
hearts be troubled or dismayed.

NIV—Jesus replied…Peace I leave with you; my
peace I give you. I do not give to you as the
world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled
and do not be afraid.

Hebrews 2:14-15
KJV—Forasmuch then as the children are
partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself
likewise took part of the same; that through
death he might destroy him that had the
power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver
them who through fear of death were all their
lifetime subject to bondage.

AMP—Since, therefore, [these His] children
share in flesh and blood [in the physical nature
of human beings], He [Himself] in a similar
manner partook of the same [nature], that by
[going through] death He might bring to nought
and make of no effect him who had the power
of death—that is, the devil—and also that He
might deliver and completely set free all those
who through the [haunting] fear of death were
held in bondage throughout the whole course
of their lives.

Weymouth—Since, then, the children referred
to are all alike sharers in perishable human
nature, He Himself also, in the same way, took
on Him a share of it, in order that through
death He might render powerless him who
had authority over death, that is, the devil,
and might set at liberty all those who through
fear of death had been subject to lifelong
slavery.

NIV—Since the children have flesh and blood,
he too shared in their humanity so that by his
death he might destroy him who holds the
power of death—that is, the devil—and free
those who all their lives were held in slavery
by their fear of death.

Matthew 10 :28-31
KJV—Fear not them which kill the body, but
are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him
which is able to destroy both soul and body in
hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?
and one of them shall not fall on the ground
without your Father. But the very hairs of your
head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore,
ye are of more value than many sparrows.

AMP—Do not be afraid of those who kill
the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather
be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul
and body in hell (Gehenna). Are not two little
sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one
of them will fall to the ground without your
Father’s leave (consent) and notice. But even
the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear not, then; you are of more value than
many sparrows.

Weymouth—Do not fear those who kill the
body, but cannot kill the soul; rather fear Him
who is able to destroy both soul and body in
Gehenna. Do not two sparrows sell for a half
penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground
without your Father’s leave. But as for you, the
very hairs on your heads are all numbered.
Away then with fear; you are more precious
than a multitude of sparrows.

NIV—Do not be afraid of those who kill the
body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid
of the One who can destroy both soul and
body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for
a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the
ground apart from the will of your Father.
And even the very hairs of your head are all
numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth
more than many sparrows.

Matthew 24:4-6
KJV—Jesus answered and said unto them, Take
heed that no man deceive you. For many shall
come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall
deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and
rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled:
for all these things must come to pass, but the
end is not yet.

AMP—Jesus answered them, Be careful that
no one misleads you [deceiving you and
leading you into error]. For many will come in
(on the strength of) My name [appropriating
the name which belongs to Me], saying, I am the
Christ (the Messiah), and they will lead many
astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors
of wars; see that you are not frightened or
troubled, for this must take place, but the end
is not yet.

Weymouth—“Take care that no one misleads
you,” answered Jesus; “for many will come
assuming my name and saying, ‘I am the
Christ’; and they will mislead many. And you
are to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See
that you be not alarmed, for such things must
be; but the end is not yet.”

NIV—Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one
deceives you. For many will come in my name,
claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive
many. You will hear of wars and rumors of
wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed.
Such things must happen, but the end is still
to come.”

2 Timothy 1:7
God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but
of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

If people knew how death operates, they
wouldn’t be so afraid to live. Jesus said that
the one who believes on Him will never see
death. We’ve passed from that place where
we will know any death.

Fear of death is an enemy to you. Fear
of any kind is an enemy. Fear will keep you
from walking in God’s delivering power. That’s
because God responds to faith. He does what
we believe for Him to do.

If we have fear of death, we’re living in fear.
As a result, we give God no faith to work with.
He intervenes in this earth through faith. Faith
is what causes the power of God to come upon
our bodies and heal us of sickness and disease.
If we believe His promises to secure our lives,
He secures our lives. Faith in God is what causes
His angels to go forth and to protect us in times
of trouble or times of danger.

The thing God says repeatedly in His Word
is, “Fear not.” Your deliverance is in fearing not
and believing God. Fear not. But have faith
in God.

People ruin their lives over the fear of
danger, when there is no danger for the
person who is inside God’s covenant of
salvation. The definition of the word salvation
includes “deliverance, preservation, material
and temporal deliverance from danger and
apprehension, or the fear of danger.”

Take on the attitude of the three young
Israelite men who were told to bow to a
foreign god or face a fiery furnace. They
replied, “We serve God and we believe that
He is able to deliver us out of your hand. Get
this straight, King, we’re not going to bow to
other gods.” Notice that attitude. They had
more fear of the Lord than they had fear
of death.

Why fear when you know angels have been
assigned to be ministers of God’s covenant
promises—including promises of protection?
You can hire bodyguards, but they’re not as
good as the angels. When you go to bed at
night, you ought to thank God for the angels
that encamp around about you to deliver you.
When you put your head down on the pillow at
night, you don’t have to be afraid somebody’s
going to break into your house. Use your faith
and believe God, thanking Him for the ministry
of angels on your behalf and that you have
protection. That’s part of your salvation. Enjoy
the rest of being free from fear as a covenant
child of God. It belongs to you.

Satan uses doubt with great skill and cunning to cause you to fail. He knows the importance of getting you to waver. He constantly tries to throw doubt and unbelief into your consciousness. If you begin to wonder whether you have the answer, Satan will purpose to secure a foothold in your mind. By gradually increasing his influence, he knows your faith will become ineffective and cause you to be defeated.

Matthew 14:24-31 is a perfect illustration. Jesus’ disciples were traveling to the other side of the sea by ship. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when

Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

When Peter cried out to Jesus, He answered him with one word, Come. That command carried the authority necessary to defy all natural power. Faith supported Peter on the water. He stepped out of the boat into a supernatural experience. When he saw the wind, however, he became afraid and failed. He saw, he feared, and he sank!

Three elements are always involved in defeat: SEE + FEAR + DOUBT = DEFEATED FAITH Doubt was the thief that robbed Peter of God’s best. Great sermons have been made about how Jesus was there to save him. God’s best was not that he be rescued in the nick of time before being overwhelmed by a raging sea! Peter had an opportunity to walk in the supernatural, in spite of what was happening in the natural. Faith or fear—you cannot function in both at the same time. Doubt causes defeat!

In praying effectively, a vital part of your success is knowing how to refuse doubt, fear and unbelief. If you are concentrating on your circumstances instead of the Word, you are building an inner image of the problem and not the solution. What you see on the inside will determine your attitude. If all you envision is your negative circumstances, you will doubt God’s Word. Satan will then be able to take advantage of you to thwart your faith process.

Doubt operates in the mental realm. God’s Word operates in the spiritual realm. Our responsibility is to use the spiritual weapons at our disposal. Second Corinthians 10:3-5 says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” In Matthew 14, Peter’s battle was not with natural forces.

The combat was spiritual. Natural law was subject to the power inherent in Jesus’ word, “Come.” By stepping out of the boat, Peter acted on the authority in that word.

We can walk in the supernatural in spite of life’s storms raging against us. Our spiritual weapons are mighty! Do not allow doubt or fear to enter your consciousness.

Maintain control of your mind. Be ready to refuse any thought or imagination contrary to your prayer. When doubt comes, refuse to give it any place. Be selective about the thoughts you entertain. Do not build inner images of defeat!

You can control your thought life according to Philippians 4:6-9. Learn to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report.

Satan uses doubt and fear to bluff you into accepting defeat. But you can overcome him by the power of God and faith in His Word.
